Yalp identity

Yalp identity

A new brand image that we developed for Yalp, has taken its place in all 382 Morrisons stores throughout the UK.

The designs can be seen on the bottles of the new lassi drink, Yalp, which has been created by two Leeds-based entrepreneurs, Hayley Hadfield and Laurence Nair Price. And that's not the only way in which Sheffield Hallam University has supported the new product range - we've also organised a blind tasting for 100 people in the University's own sensory trialling laboratory, and the results of that are expected very soon.

The drink was developed by Hayley and Laurence using 100 per cent natural ingredients, including fresh yoghurt, and based on a traditional Indian recipe which helps to aid digestion. The innovative drink went on sale in the supermarket chain in February and they are already taking 10,000 bottles a week. The next target for distribution is universities and discussions are underway with a number of possible outlets.

Currently only available in mango flavour, two more flavours - strawberry and banana - are under development, and the Design Futures team have just heard they'll be developing the packaging designs for those as well.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the work we do with a product which looks set to be a significant addition to the soft drinks market,' said John Kirkby, head of packaging design within Design Futures, Sheffield Hallam's commercial design consultancy.

‘The name of the drink is ‘play' backwards, and the branding had to reflect the fun element of the product, giving people something to talk about and engage with, at the same time as creating an image of natural quality and good value. We've really enjoyed working with Laurence and Hayley on this initiative and are delighted that we're now going on to come up with designs for the two new flavours.'
